Airport Rail Links

The following table provides details of rail links to UK airports.  If your flying abroad or coming to the UK from overseas, taking the train provides the stress free alternative for getting to and from the airport. 

Airport names listed in Orange have their own rail stations. 

Airport

Rail Link

Aberdeen

Dyce Rail Station is close to the airport and served by trains from Inverness, Elgin and Aberdeen and some through services from Glasgow and Edinburgh.  Other trains including Intercity services terminate at Aberdeen with connections or 10 min taxi journey to airport from Aberdeen station. 

Birmingham

Adjacent to Birmingham International station which has links to all the country either by direct train or by frequent connections from Birmingham New Street journey time to which is 8 minutes. A bus service also operates from Solihull (operated by Travel West Midlands), journey time to which is 18 minutes, with through tickets available.

Bristol International Airport

Frequent coach service is provided by First Somerset and Avon from Bristol Temple Meeds to the airport.  Journey time 20 - 30 minutes. 

Cardiff

Travel to Rhoose Cardiff International Airport Station on the  Vale of Glamorgan line.  The Station is only half a mile from the terminal and a bus link is provided to the terminal building. 

Edinburgh

Frequent bus links to/from Edinburgh Haymarket and Waverley stations - through tickets are available.  Both stations served by rail services from all parts of Scotland. 

Glasgow

The advertised rail link operates from Paisley Gilmour Street station to Glasgow airport and is operated by Arriva.  You may include the cost of this bus fare in your rail ticket by asking for 'Glasgow Airport via via Paisley Gilmour Street' when purchasing your ticket.  

For travellers going to / from the north Arrive operate service 500 from Queen Street and Central Stations (together with the city's main bus station) to Glasgow Airport.  Combined tickets are available with First Scotrail, just ask for 'Glasgow Airport' as the destination when buying your ticket.  This service replaces the one previously operated by Citylink Coaches.

Both routes operate up to every 10 minutes 24 hours a day, seven days a week.    

Leeds Bradford

From Leeds a coach service operates from New Station Street and from Bradford from Bradford Interchange.

London Gatwick

Gatwick Airport has its own railway station attached to the South Terminal. Access to the North Terminal is via free transit from the North Terminal. Southern and Gatwick Express train services to London Victoria.  Direct train services serve many parts of the country with Virgin Trains.  Southern Railway also operates trains to London and other towns. 

London Heathrow

The Heathrow Express rail service operates from all terminals to Paddington Station.  Heathrow Connect trains operate from Terminal 1 to Paddington. 

The London Underground also links all terminals with central London and other main line rail stations.

Express dedicated coaches link Reading, Watford Junction and Woking stations with all four terminals at Heathrow Airport. Other services link Watford, Luton, Stevenage, Feltham and Central London with the airport.

London Luton

A frequent dedicated shuttle bus links Luton Airport with Luton Airport Parkway station - journey time 5 minutes. Luton Airport Parkway is served by frequent Thameslink services direct to Bedford, Central London, South London, Gatwick Airport and Brighton. Midland Mainline services link Luton Airport Parkway with St Pancras and Leicester, Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield.

In addition Virgin Trains provide an hourly dedicated coach link between the Airport, Luton railway station and Milton Keynes Central railway station and town centre.

Also WAGN operates a frequent daily coach link service between Hitchin and Luton Airport.

London Stanstead

Stansted Airport has its own railway station right in the heart of the airport terminal building.

The Stansted Express is a dedicated rail service operating between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport station. Fastest journey time is 41 minutes, with an intermediate stop at Tottenham Hale to enable transfer onto the Victoria Line (London Underground) for the West End.

Central Trains operates an hourly express service seven days a week between Birmingham and Stansted Airport calling at Leicester, Peterborough and Cambridge offering connections with services to Yorkshire and the North East.

Liverpool

A direct bus service connects the airport with Lime Street, Moorfields and James Street Stations in Liverpool. 

Manchester

Manchester airport rail station has frequent services to Manchester and all nearby towns. 

Newcastle

Newcastle Metro Light Rail provides a link to Newcastle station.  Rail links to all parts of the country. 

Prestwick International

Rail station is situated opposite the airport and a covered walkway provides a link with the terminal.  Frequent electric trains to Ayr and Glasgow.  Trains also continue to Stranraer. 

Southampton

Southampton Airport (Parkway) station is adjacent to Southampton Airport. South West Trains operate up to 3 trains per hour between London Waterloo, Winchester and Southampton Airport with up to 3 direct services to Bournemouth, 2 to Poole and Wareham and hourly to Weymouth and most intermediate stations.

Virgin Trains services link Southampton Airport (Parkway) with the Midlands, North West and North East England and Scotland.
